Atrox website >> Leave a reply
After 21 years of anonymity we’re back to document the punk band we had in the early ‘80s.
The painfully slow gestation of this website has taken 2 years but is worth it we think, unless that is :- you hated us back then and still do, or you’ve stumbled across this site whilst Googling for the “other” Atrox(es) or some other weird reason. Either way, tough.
This website may eventually cover all the info and pictures we can lay our hands on, as long as it’s scan-able and relevant. At the moment it’s work-in-progress and will be updated from time to time. If you have any photos, flyers, or live tapes of STTS/Atrox, please get in touch.
Was checking out new download releases on EMusic yesterday (Brilliant and cheapap download company specialising in indie and punk by the way) and noticed that Overground/Cadiz records re-released around 35 punk albums last week. They range from 77 type stuff such as The Maniacs, Satans Rats, ATV, 999 etc to 80’s The System, Disrupters and Icon AD.
The one that really took my interest though was the Mobs Ching cassette relased in digital format together with some stunning live tracks too. All this stuff is probably available elsewhere, but thought I would pass it on…
Was surfing and found my name on your site! – never thought Lex Tallonus were that influential!! Have totally lost touch with the scene but would love to know where the Churchill brothers are. I know that Damien Lewis is a hard hitting journalist but haven’t spoken to him for years! Remember – old punks never die – they just smell that way!!!
Lex Tallonus rocked!
Another piece of the old Poole/Bournemouth scene jigsaw –

Howabout this then? The Damned are playing Bridport on 19 August 2010! Never thought I’d see the day!
I’m trying to get in touch with Rich Levene (STE collective).

Not sure if anyone looks here anymore but I saw Paul Currans new band last night and they were great. They are called Nobody’s Heroes and play Punk cover from around 1977-1982. Mostly the bigger named stuff like Ruts, SLF, Damned, Buzzcockxs etc but also did a Cult Maniax track too. Anyway, I am sure Paul is far too modest to mention all this himself, so i have done it myself. look out for the name
cheers Andy…thanx for the comments
here’s the link to our facebook page as well…

I don’t really understand whats going on here.Although I did go and see the Astronauts last month, the first punk gig for years.
hi i have a early Atrox tape but no means of getting it on hear if ya want it email me, it was given to me by the band at a gig in the cornwall skittle alley in Dorch about 81/82 ish . kept for years in darknes lol now i would love to hear it again . good stuff .
GRANT…..I’d be interested in the tape! is it still up for grabs? I’ve got “hit the oxide” and have converted that to CD….I’m looking for the STTS tape (pre atrox) and the second Atrox demo.
Paul Curran’s band Nobody’s Heroes are at The George Public House in Weymouth this evening. Starts around 9.30PM
Well i dunno what’s happened with half the bollocks posted on here and whatnot….spam issues perhaps? Meanwhile back in Punkville, just been listening to some live Madmass wot Andy R. sent me…bloody great stuff! In other news my band the C-30s support Ed Tudorpole [Tenpole Tudor]at Champions [Bournemouth] next Friday 24th Sept and the U.K Subs at the same venue on Friday 3rd December. I take it all is well with the boys from Atrox/STTS?

I was thinking the same Andy…..a lot of crap has appeared on here recently. I’m planning on coming up to the UK Subs gig in December…if I can find someone to share transport! Andy R. came to our gig last week in Weymouth! We’re playing at The Lord Nelson in Poole Quay on Sat 25 Sept…..if you’re around Andy, come on down and bring some mates!
UGG boots!!!! WTF? Dr Martens are THE only boots!
Sorry about all the bullshit spam of late. Hadn’t checked in for a while and the spam filters had got out of date. All up to date again now.
Happy posting, Dave R
Hi Dave/Charlie….want a photo of the Dead popstars to put on here? I have a Jpeg one you could use. Drop me a mail and I’ll send it to you.
On the subject of whom……………. –

Oh…and -

Charlie, interesting article that “greengalloway” one. Nice to see that the Dead Popstars had a mention. Interesting to read about the witch hunt single as well, about the picture sleeves. A mate of mine has four different formats for the sleeve and this article backs up what he told me a couple years back. Very good.
Charlie, both the links are great. The Mob info is brilliant. Interesting about the witch hunt single. A mate of mine has that single in 4 different format sleeves!
Nice Mob links. Made me chuckle seeing Steve Rudall being called Steve Rudolph. I remember him singing a Punk version of Puff the Magic Dragon a couple of times. One I think may have been with the Dead Popstars at the Rock but the other could have been with The Mob at one of the Ambulance Hall gigs in Weymouth…memory fading I am affraid with time. Can anyone else remember this ? I seem to recall “lives by the Sea” was rhymed with “beleives in Anarchy” and was a fantastic version
is the cd of your demos going to get released soon please let me know thank you.
allright ye buggers! would you happen to have your old demos stashed away somewhere?screaming at deaf ears(84)
Update – there is no new update…..
Both Atrox demos “Hit The Oxide!” (the exclamation mark is vital……) and “Screaming At Deaf Ears” have yet to be reissued or put out on CD/CDR.
We will eventually do a quality tape to digital transfer but at current enthusiasm levels it may be quite a while……
Was listening to Steve Lamaqu’s Radio 6 show yesterday. He had this new Punk band in the studio doing an interview and played a track. They were called “Flats” and I was so impressed I wanted to pass it on to all you old and aging punks out there. This band are heavily influence by early 80s Anarcho punk and quoted Crass and Discharge in the interview. The song they played really did sound like something from this era. I know they have a couple of EPs out so well worth tracking down. So refreshing to see the punk kids playing proper aggresive tunes rather than all these 1000s of bands wanting to be Green Day. Also to recommend in the new band genre are US Punks the Libyans. Very much like early Black Flag/Dead Kennedys/Meat Puppets. I right racket and fantastic for it. Check it out if you can. You want be dissapointed
Oh, you can listen back to Steve Lemacqs show on the 6 music I-Player. 27/10/2010
just thought i would drop in and refresh and wish you all a happy yule/solstice. Well I canna believe that the Damned played at Bridports Electric Palace, crazy, would have loved to have been there. Used to go and see flicks when it was a cinema, just copped a video of ‘Blackout’ on you tube, from the gig, remember annie nightingale line comparing them to the who, as they smashed up their gear on old grey whistle test, after playing smash it up/just can’t be happy, way back then, i orderred a copy of the black album and just had enough time to listen to ‘Blsackout’ in Bells Record store before hopping on the train to see them at the Gaumont in S’hampton. nostalgia.
Damned in Bridport was a cracking gig! By the time the appeared on stage, I thought we’d only get an hour of them but they played for just under 2 hours…great stuff. You always get value for money with The damned!
hi all…saw Captain Sensible the other night in Soton with Paul Gray on Bass and Dave Berk on Drums…bloody good stuff. Anyway, check out the C-30s, me newer band, new songs on here…http://www.myspace.com/thec30s
heard the capt was touring…what did he play?
I see the boomtown rats are in Wimborne in January at the tivoli.
Hey Mr Rendall. Glad you like the song. Really hoping to get something sorted down your neck of the woods perhaps feb/march [our drummer now resides in London, but he's still dead keen to keep the band going] …is there any contact/myspace for Glens band? Perhaps we could do a gig with them? I’m spending quite a bit of time in Dorchester these days as my girlfriend lives there…if Komakino play in Weymouth again soon, gimme a shout and we’ll hop on the train.
Have a great EggsMass! Oh, i saw the Madmass myspace, good stuff, your doing?
Hi Mr nazer!
Nobody’s Heroes are back in Dorchester on sat 29th Jan at The Borough Arms (Goldies) in the high street if you’re in Dorch that weekend!
Come on down!
Andy N.
Don’t know of any Myspace page for Glens band. That’s a shame though as I passed him in the car only yesterday and beeped the old horn at him. I could have stopped and asked if I had known. Will do a bit of investigating though and at worse, direct someone from the band to this site to make contact.
Oh, that Madmass Myspace, that was set up only for a laugh really at the time the old Gloucester Bars tapes come to light, but of course…couldn’t possibly claim any sort of responsibility. Have a good one too and hopefully get to hear you play in the new year
final got a copy of your first demo ive posted it on my website SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENTS http://gabesuk82.blogspot.com/
Found a copy of the very first demo…SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM’s “last breathe for humanity” and Andy R. has made a good job converting it to CD for me. The live trax at Capones are really good. I reckon they must have recorded through the PA desk? Can anyone enlighten me?
Worth a listen.
Just found Wordbug on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on8-Ff1eDk0
Don’t know how to make it clicky, but it’s a good clip of post-Atrox band members!
Hey Paul, the STTS live stuff on the first demo was indeed recorded through the PA desk from what i recall. Will try and make your gig on the 29th if i’m in Dorch.
Andy R…nice one, keep us posted!
Cheers for the info Andy N. I thought it was recorded thru the mixing desk as it is really good quality. If you’re in Dorch on 29th then pop on down to Goldies….only a couple hundred yards from your missus pad (assuming she still lives in the same place!). It’d be good to see you again. It’s a compact venue though!
A lot of junk on here again!!!
The Mob have reformed after 28 years and are playing a gig in Bristol on 8th April. Supported by Zounds & Rubella Ballet, amongst others!
Shame I can’t make it, as I’m gigging that night!

Wots all this crap appearing on here?
I am told that the Joy Division covers band Komakino are playing in the Park Hotel pub in Weymouth this Saturday. (2nd April)This is Glen’s band and are well worth seeing
Hey Andy, you going? I may try to make it along.
Andy N. I will be there
Paul Curran’s Nobodys Heroes are at the Borough Arms in Dorchester tomorrow night (Sat 9th April). I missed them at this venue last time round but was told that it was a cracking gig with a cracking atmosphere. Worth seeing.
Wish someone would clear all these crap comments!
As monty python said…..spam, spam, spam, spam….
Komakino are playing a short notice gig at the Queens in Weymouth this Staurday (23rd April)
